Motion Design animations for the 20th anniversary of the Festival Présences Électronique

Motion Design, a creative and technical specialisation

Motion Design is the art of graphic design in motion, combining images, typography and special effects to create striking animations. At ESMA, this discipline is a specialisation taught in the third year of the Multimedia Graphic Designcycle . The option is offered on the Toulouse campus and, from September 2025, also in Montpellier. This course enables students to acquire technical and artistic skills to meet the needs of the visual communications sector.

Présences Électronique: a pioneering festival

The Présences Électronique Festival, a not-to-be-missed event for electronic music, celebrates its 20ᵉ anniversary this year. Organised by Radio France and the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM), this Parisian event highlights avant-garde sound creations. It offers an immersive experience where electronic music blends with innovative visual installations.

ESMA, the right choice for an ambitious project

For this special edition, the festival organisers called on ESMA’s Motion Design students. It was an obvious choice, given that the school is renowned for the quality of its training in the applied arts and its professional approach to projects. Working on a real commission such as this is a unique opportunity for the students: they confront their creativity with the expectations of a client and develop visual solutions adapted to a complex sound universe.

Animations for a demanding commission

The students rose to the challenge with flying colours, creating dynamic, immersive animations. Using tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, they created captivating visuals that convey the energy and innovation of electronic music.

With their abstract, dynamic shapes, pulsating light waves, neon colours, concentric circles and flowing waves, the up-and-coming motion designers have ingeniously translated the vibrations of electronic music travelling to the rhythm of the bass.

A rewarding collaboration

This project is a fine demonstration of the talent of ESMA students. They were able to combine creativity and technical skills while respecting the requirements of a precise brief. By associating itself with renowned cultural events such as the Présences Électronique Festival, ESMA continues to assert its role as a springboard for the creators of tomorrow.
