Our students in the Expert Interior Architecture Cycle have brilliantly risen to the challenge of isometric projection by redesigning iconic pieces of furniture design. It was a technical and artistic exercise that demonstrated their rigour and creativity.

Isometric projection: a fundamental tool in design
Isometric projection is a graphic representation technique that allows three-dimensional objects to be drawn on a two-dimensional plane, without altering their proportions.
In the field of interior architecture, this approach is essential for designing precise perspectives that can be used in professional projects.
Mastering this tool gives students a better understanding of volumes, shadows and proportions, while developing their ability to visualise complex spaces and structures.

A technical and creative exercise
As part of their training, our Expert Cycle Interior Architecture students were invited to take up an ambitious challenge: to select an iconic chair by a famous designer and redesign it in isometric projection on Adobe Illustrator.
To do this, they used vector drawing tools, in particular the pen tool and the pathfinder, to faithfully reproduce the lines and volumes of the chosen furniture. This exercise, combining technique and attention to detail, enabled them to refine their approach to digital drawing while developing their graphic sensitivity.

Quality work recognised
The assessment of this exercise was based on several criteria: mastery of Illustrator (layers and shapes), management of vector drawing, accuracy of isometric representation, and the choice and harmonisation of colours and contours.
Thanks to their rigorous work, the students were able to produce high-quality renderings, thus demonstrating their understanding of the requirements of digital design.
Congratulations to them for their commitment and talent, which are a brilliant illustration of the excellence of ESMA’s Interior Architecture programme!
