It's a visit that prepares them for their future careers: at the beginning of October, students in the final year of ESMA's Interior Architecture course were invited to Altémed for the "Learning Expedition Bois" event.

Learning Expedition Bois : Altémed au coeur des énergies renouvelables
On 11 October, students in their final year of the Interior Architecture course at ESMA Montpellier went to meet teams from Altémed, a Montpellier social landlord, for the second edition of the Learning Expedition Bois, organised by the Lab by Altémed and property developer Linkcity.
The event, which focuses on wood construction, aims to raise awareness of the use of this sustainable material in the design of buildings and infrastructure.
It also provides an opportunity for discussion and debate on the challenges facing the construction sector.

An intense programme of enriching encounters
The students enthusiastically embarked on an intense and rich learning programme. Accompanied by their teachers, they were able to attend a series of presentations and discussions on timber construction techniques, regulations, carbon footprint and concrete projects tracing the path of timber from the forest to the beam.
This highlighted the operational and architectural impact of using wood, with feedback shared by a number of experts, including Sébastien Nerva, Director of Wood Construction Development at Linkcity, Yann Fortunato, representative of FIBOIS Occitanie, and Fabien Thuile, associate architect at A+ Architecture.
At lunchtime, participants and speakers had an opportunity for informal discussions on the above topics and other aspects of the sector.

An immersive day for our students
Finally, in the afternoon, ESMA students had the opportunity to visit a timber construction site, and to immerse themselves in current timber construction practices.
For the future graduates of ESMA’s Interior Architecture course, the day was an opportunity to meet new people, expand their network, talk to specialists in the wood industry and position themselves as future players in the sector.
It also enabled them to anticipate their future professional integration, and to enrich their understanding of the challenges facing the sector. Many thanks to Altémed for this invitation, and for the warm welcome extended to all our students!
