From 9 to 12 October 2024, Sète hosted the first edition of Creatvty, a festival dedicated to new audiovisual creations. ESMA was honoured to be a partner of this event, which represents a unique opportunity to highlight the creative productions of the Occitanie region, while offering a platform for exchange between professionals and young audiovisual talent.
A new meeting place for audiovisual creation
Creatvty is the brainchild of Stéphane Caput, producer and chairman of the In the Mood for Films association. The aim of the festival is to celebrate the diversity of audiovisual creations, while giving greater visibility to often little-known works. Sète, an emblematic filming location, has seen its cinematographic dynamism increase in recent years. In collaboration with its partners, the town has launched Creatvty, which aims to be a key meeting place for the public and audiovisual professionals in the Occitanie region. The aim of this new event is to promote works at all stages of their production, from writing to post-production.
Creatvty ‘s objective is clear: to become a regional, if not national, benchmark for supporting and promoting audiovisual creation. By showcasing works that are sometimes less visible in traditional circuits, the festival aims to provide a privileged stage for creators and their singular artistic approaches.
The importance of ESMA’s partnership with Creatvty
For ESMA, participating in a festival like Creatvty is an essential step. As a benchmark school in 3D animation, ESMA has a duty to actively support initiatives that promote audiovisual creation, particularly in a region as dynamic as Occitanie. This partnership provides an opportunity for ESMA alumni to see their work recognised by the public and professionals in the sector.
It is also an opportunity for the school to show its commitment to promoting young local talent, by supporting them in events that enable them to develop their network and open up new professional prospects.
The short film competition: ESMA’s excellence
Three categories were on show: television unit films, animated shorts and web series.
The animated shorts competition showcased the work of young creators from a number of schools in the region, including ESMA, ARTFX and ENSAV. Nine films made by ESMA students were selected for the competition, demonstrating the quality and diversity of the school’s productions:
- All Aboard !
- Vidalia
- The Danube Ogre
- Close
- Swing to the Moon
- Trash
- Wilson
- Reven
- The Fireflies
These short films reflect the students’ technical and artistic mastery, as well as their ability to come up with original and captivating stories.
And it was Swing to the Moon that won the prize for best animated short! This film, both poetic and technically impressive, captured the hearts of the jury and the audience.
ESMA would like to congratulate all the teams of the shortlisted films for their exceptional work and creativity.
A promising festival for the future of audiovisual creation
With this successful first edition, Creatvty is already showing its potential to become a major event in the audiovisual festival calendar. Its ambition to give greater visibility to works that are less present on the major stages meets a real need for diversity in the audiovisual landscape. ESMA is proud to support this initiative and wishes long life to this festival, which will undoubtedly establish itself as a key event for audiovisual creation.
We congratulate all the participants and hope that Creatvty will continue to promote innovation and creative daring in the years to come.
