Presentation of the project
How do you represent an animal by moving away from classical realism and focusing instead on sensation, light and colour?
In this project, the Prépa Entertainmentstudents explored the world of Impressionist painting by creating a portrait of an animal of their choice. The exercise encouraged them to look at shapes, textures and nuances in a different way, in order to convey an atmosphere rather than just a faithful rendering.
Through this pictorial approach, the students discovered a more sensitive and expressive way of constructing an image.
Subject of the exercise
The students were asked to create an animal illustration using the principles of the Impressionist technique.
Born at the end of the 19th century, Impressionism is an artistic movement that seeks to capture immediate visual impressions, particularly variations in light, colour and atmosphere. Rather than depicting every detail realistically, this technique relies on visible brushstrokes, colour contrasts and a freer approach to materials.
In this way, the students worked on their animal as a living composition, in which light, textures and colours play a full part in the emotion of the image.
Teaching objectives
The aim of this project was to encourage students to experiment with a different approach to painting, by developing their sense of observation and their mastery of colour.
In particular, they worked on :
- understanding the principles of Impressionism
- the treatment of light and atmosphere
- the construction of volumes through colour
- observing textures and movement in the animal world
- developing a more expressive and sensitive approach to illustration
The students approached this exercise with a high level of expectation and commitment, developing renderings of great visual richness. The care taken with textures, light effects and colour nuances is a testament to the work of observation and pictorial interpretation. Each work reveals a personal approach to the animal chosen, combining technical precision with artistic sensitivity.
