We are delighted to announce that, as part of its ongoing development, ESMA will be launching a Video Game Professional Cycle on the Bordeaux and Nantes campuses in September 2025.
Building on the experience and success of the Rennes, Montpellier and Toulouse campuses, this course meets a growing demand in a rapidly expanding sector, with many varied career prospects.

Renowned training already available on three campuses

For several years now, ESMA’s Video Games course has been setting the standard. Already offered on the Rennes, Montpellier and Toulouse campuses, it trains students in a variety of professions, including game designer, 3D artist, level designer and VFX artist. This 4-year course, certified by a state-recognised level 6 RNCP qualification (equivalent to 3/4 Baccalaureate), offers a balance between theory and practice, combining artistic, technical and cultural teaching.

Course content: a solid foundation for creative careers

The programme is designed to cover all the skills needed to create and develop video games. Students take a variety of courses, from traditional drawing and 3D animation to programming and specific software such as Unity and Unreal Engine. Practical workshops, team projects and work placements enhance their learning, enabling them to gradually immerse themselves in the professional world.

Thanks to this pedagogical approach, ESMA graduates are particularly well prepared to join video game studios or explore related sectors that are increasingly adopting gamification techniques.

Bordeaux and Nantes, magnets for creative professions

It’s no coincidence that ESMA has chosen to extend its Video Game Professional Cycle to these two cities, renowned for their cultural and economic dynamism..

Bordeaux: a stronghold of the creative industry

In recent years, Bordeaux has established itself as a key hub for the creative industries. The city is already home to video game studios, companies specialising in immersive technologies and digital events such as Bordeaux Geekfest. By offering its training within this framework, ESMA aims to strengthen this creative fabric by providing recognised expertise and training future local talent.

Nantes: an innovative, forward-looking ecosystem

Nantes stands out for its effervescence in the fields of innovation and digital technology. With structures such as the Creative Factory and festivals such as Scopitone, Nantes has positioned itself as an avant-garde city. The arrival of ESMA’s Video Game course in this city is a unique opportunity for students to train in an environment that is conducive to the development of artistic and technological professions.

Video Game professions: a sector in the throes of reinvention

The decision to extend this course is also motivated by the rapid evolution of the video game industry, a sector which, while consolidating its place among the major creative industries, is reinventing itself to meet new technological, economic and social expectations. The impact of video games goes far beyond consoles and screens.

The emergence of gamification: an industrial revolution

More and more companies, in sectors as varied as healthcare, education, marketing and vocational training, are adopting game-based mechanisms to engage their audiences. Gamification meets a growing demand for interactive and immersive experiences.

  • In healthcare, gamified applications are used to support patients in their rehabilitation or to train professionals in a fun way.
  • In marketing, brands are exploiting game mechanisms to build customer loyalty and enrich their experience, with interactive campaigns designed as games.
  • In education and training, serious games provide an engaging way to learn, from simulations for pilots to applications for language learning.

These developments open up new prospects for ESMA students, who will be able to work not only in traditional video game studios, but also in diversified companies looking for interactive innovations.

A wide range of career opportunities

The rise of technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality and multiplayer online games offers even more opportunities for young graduates.

As a pioneer in teaching artistic professions, ESMA ensures that its students are not only competent, but also ready to adapt to emerging trends.
