How can you put your talent to work for a cause ? That is what the students in ESMA Montpellier's Multimedia Graphic Design course were able to do when they took part in the "Club des D.A" competition. Here is a look back at a rich experience, and the remarkable results achieved by our students, who came out on top in front of an audience of communication and visual creation professionals !

“LE CLUB DES D.A” : THE AMBITION TO SHINE THE SPOTLIGHT ON FRENCH TALENT

Founded in 1967, the “Club des D.A” is an association of professionals dedicated to defending and promoting the creative professions and the arts applied to communication. Each year, the association organises a professional competition as well as a student competition, with the aim of honouring the work and talent of French creative artists in the fields of communication and graphic design. The “Club des D.A” competition is open to all art and communication schools and similar courses in France, and aims to provide a prestigious showcase for young talent ready to enter the job market.

For the 55th edition of its competition, the “Club des D.A” has teamed up with the Fier-Play association, which works “for the inclusion, equity and respect of people in sport regardless of their sexual orientation, gender expression or identity”. So it was for this association, and more specifically for its La Pride House – France 2024 initiative, which will be deployed during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, that the students devoted their efforts. Their objective? To produce a high-impact, inclusive communications campaign in line with the association’s graphic identity and values, with the aim of raising the profile and visibility of Pride House, which is intended to be a place for the LGBTI+ community to come together, celebrate and support the Olympic Games.

AN ESMA PROJECT ON THE PODIUM !

For this collective initiative, ESMA students were organised into five groups of three, each playing a specific role. The teams brought together copywriters, art directors and digital and print communication strategy consultants, who were able to work together and pool their skills and expertise to bring their project to a successful conclusion. Over a period of several weeks, the students were given the opportunity to devise an appropriate strategy and think about its implementation, taking particular account of the various aspects of the campaign, including a poster campaign for the city of Paris and the RATP, an increased presence on social networks (Instagram & TikTok), the production of an advertising film and a twenty-second radio spot… All opportunities to reach a wide audience and convey a message of inclusion and diversity.

Of the 88 projects submitted, which were carefully examined by a panel of professionals to assess their originality and creative impact, 13 had the honour of being selected for the shortlist, and 4 were awarded prizes. In this competition, which showcased the talent and imaginative abilities of the youngest creative minds, one of the projects submitted by ESMA students, entitled “Tout le monde s’y retrouve !”, stood out by proudly taking third place on the podium at the prize-giving ceremony, which took place in the hemicycle of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, at the same time as the awards were being presented to established artistic directors and nationally or even internationally recognised communications agencies. This was a very special moment for our young talents, who were able to rub shoulders for an evening with some of the biggest names in communications and graphic design, gathered together for the occasion, and with whom they were able to exchange ideas and establish contacts that could be decisive for their future careers. A real springboard for their professional careers, this experience enabled them to project themselves with ambition and confidence into the world of creation and design that they aspire to join in the near future.
