The dark is where our most frightening fears come from, and where the most terrifying monsters emerge... Sharp teeth, clawed fingers and an evil look are the perfect characteristics to identify these creatures of the shadows. This is the theme that the students at Prépa Entertainment worked on to create the monster of their nightmares!
The monster… A subject as fascinating as it is frightening. Whether hidden in the shadows, under the bed or in the cupboard, monsters have haunted our imaginations since our earliest childhood. These fabulous creatures echo and embody our deepest fears and anxieties.
But let’s be honest, we love to fear monsters!
For their art class, teacher Olivia Vidil got the Prépa Entertainment students to work on this subject.
The project was carried out over two sessions. In the first session, the students worked on an A3 board on which they could freely design their texture research, with the aim of presenting at least 20 different textures. The second session was devoted to producing a drawing of a monstrous face!
Shiver with fear when you see these monsters!
SUBJECT OF THE EXERCISE
On an A3 format, landscape or portrait, depending on your project, propose the image of a monstrous face.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXERCISE
- Respect the format mentioned – A3 – landscape or portrait,
- The monster must have a partially human face (at least 30%),
- The image must be monochromatic (black only),
- The use of various painting tools is permitted (finger, fork, sponge, etc.),
- Other supports may be used as long as the image remains flat (scotch tape, black plastic bag, sewing thread, etc.),
- Pens, felt-tip pens, pencils, chalk and paintbrushes may not be used.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE
The educational aim of this exercise was to encourage students to develop their exploratory skills and diversify their practice. They had to be able to create their own tools and build up a rich and extensive library of textures, while being able to use them to make the monster.
The students also had to be able to present, organise and format their research on an A3 board. The finished project had to be coherent and rich in both visual and graphic terms, while at the same time being legible and dominated by the image of the monstrous face.
TECHNIQUE(S)
Black paint.
To apply: finger, tip of a needle, fork, straw, branch, sponge, textile, cotton bud, black plastic bag, black tape, black paper, black sewing thread, etc.
