Disturbance" workshop

To exercise their drawing skills and imagination, teacher Olivia Vidil got the students at the Prépa Entertainment in Lyon to work on the subject of disruption and accidents. What could be more creatively stimulating than disrupting an everyday object, in this case a sheet of paper?

An accident is something that can be described as unexpected, something that does not conform to what is planned or what we are used to. The same applies to a disturbance, which occurs as a disorder or disruption.

This is the theme that the Prépa Entertainment students have been working on. Their sketchbook, or a simple sheet of paper, became the object of interference. This medium, with which they are confronted every day, was to undergo a disturbance, altering its original function from a creative perspective.

The aim of this project was to get the students to work closely with the medium (notebook, sheet of paper, binding, lines, format) and the drawing that interferes with the functioning of the sheet.

Subject of the exercise

“Accidentally “disturb” a sheet of paper (or a double page) with an element of your choice. The composition of the drawing is free as long as the required format is respected.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXERCISE

  • The design must be between A4 and A6 format,
  • The drawing must be done either in a notebook or on a sheet of paper (single or double page),
  • The page(s) must be lined,
  • No volumes or pop-ups,
  • The composition of the drawing is free.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE

The aim was not to create an image on a sheet of paper, but an image that disturbs the sheet. The students had to use their imagination to integrate this ‘parasitic’ element, interacting with an ordinary sheet of paper.

They used the structure of the sheet (or sheets / notebook) to play with the support and allow the creation of this disturbing element. This enabled them to adapt to all types of media and demands.

TECHNIQUE(S)

Free (pencil, felt-tip pen, scissors, etc.).
