ESMA partners with L'Ouest Hurlant

ouest hurlant 2

From 25 to 26 April, the L'Ouest Hurlant festival transforms the city of Rennes into a playground dedicated to imaginary worlds. ESMA is proud to be associated with this major cultural event, alongside the Pivaut school, to celebrate creation, storytelling and the visual arts in all their forms.

A festival dedicated to contemporary imagination and storytelling

L’Ouest Hurlant is a festival in Rennes devoted entirely to fantasy literature, artistic creation and contemporary narrative forms. From science fiction and fantasy to comics, film, illustration and narrative games, the event explores all the ways in which worlds can be told and brought to life.

For ESMA, this event is a natural forum for dialogue. Joining a festival that celebrates the power of visual storytelling and the imaginary was an obvious choice, given that these values are at the heart of the courses and professions that the school prepares students for.

A partnership for storytelling and images

As part of the Creative Schools network, ESMA has joined forces with the Pivaut school to offer special events focusing on visual and narrative creation.

ESMA / Pivaut character design workshop

Saturday 25 April at 1.30pm, registration required

A character design workshop will bring together students and enthusiasts to discuss the challenges of creating characters: silhouette, expression, narrative intention, graphic coherence, etc. Participants will be accompanied by speakers from both schools to explore the fundamental bases of character design for animation and illustration.

Screenings and meetings around the story

Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April, Théâtre La Paillette

ESMA and Pivaut will be presenting a selection of student films on a common theme: “Between words”, an exploration of language, communication and their many forms.

The screenings will be enhanced by the presence of directors who are former students of the two schools, who will be sharing their experience and their views on creation, storytelling and the image professions.

Harmony - ESMA 2023

An immersive exhibition in Saint-Cyr Park

Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April, Parc Saint-Cyr

The public can discover an exhibition devoted to the anatomy of a 3D animated film, through the film Swing to the Moon, made by ESMA students.

This installation offers an immersion into the production stages of a film: concept art, modelling, animation, lighting and final rendering. It’s a practical way of understanding the richness and complexity of the 3D animation professions.
