The COWS graduation film (Class of 2025) has been named one of the 15 semi-finalists for the prestigious Student Academy Awards. This selection recognises the hard work of the entire team and puts this animation project on the international student film scene.
The Student Academy Awards: a springboard into the film industry
Organised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Student Academy Awards recognise the most outstanding productions by students in film, animation and digital media each year. Regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious competitions in this field, they offer young talent a unique platform and often serve as a real springboard into the major creative industries, particularly film and animation.
COWS: an animated fable full of freedom and disillusionment
COWS follows the adventures of Moo Moo, a cow who no longer feels at home in her everyday life. In search of change and a more promising future, she decides to flee her farm to join a brand-new farm on the other side of the road. But this escape, fuelled by the hope of a better life, quickly turns into a discovery more complex than expected: the reality of this new environment is a far cry from the idealised image she had conjured up.
Through this story, which is both simple and symbolic, the film explores the notions of freedom, the longing for elsewhere and disillusionment.
A close-knit and ambitious production team
The film was directed by a team of passionate students:
, Nicolás Acevedo Ferraté, Valentin Brachet, Maxence Corriette, Tanguy Delepine, Eireen Failly, Jonathan Lally, Elio Molinaro, Yulia Nikitina and Alexandre Verspuce.
Throughout the project, the filmmakers pooled their artistic, technical and narrative skills to bring to life an ambitious film that is at once funny, moving and visually accomplished.
A selection that recognises a demanding collective effort
This selection amongst the 15 semi-finalists for the Student Academy Awards is a particularly significant honour given the high standards and selectivity of this competition, which each year highlights the world’s most promising student productions. Being shortlisted at this stage of the competition is a testament to the quality of the work carried out on COWS, the film’s artistic and technical mastery, and the directors’ ability to produce an original and accomplished work.
ESMA extends its warmest congratulations to the directors of the short film on this wonderful international recognition, which rewards several months of dedication, creativity and teamwork. We now wish them the very best for the rest of the competition and hope to see COWS continue its journey all the way to the final.
