The role of the space designer is to understand, anticipate, fit out, arrange and optimise a permanent or temporary space in the best possible way, in line with the needs expressed by the customer, whether in a home or a public space.
THE ROLE OF THE SPACE DESIGNER
The job of a space designer covers a very wide range of areas: whether it’s redesigning the interior of a home, putting together an exhibition, designing an outdoor terrace, or urban planning, the aim is to propose a way of organising the space and arranging the elements in line with the customer’s needs.
Without losing sight of the need to integrate each element perfectly into its environment, he plays of course with the layout of the furniture, the insertion and demolition of partitions, but also with the materials, colours and decoration that will enhance his work.
It’s a multi-skilled job. On site, the experienced space designer is involved in the entire project: after the upstream customer brief, and validation of his sketches and 3D plans, he is responsible for managing the teams dedicated to implementing the project (electricians, masons, craftsmen, etc.).
HIS SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Whether working in a design office, an architectural practice or on a freelance basis, space designers draw on a solid general knowledge and a good grasp of new trends, enabling them to come up with ever more innovative proposals.
A professional aesthete, the DE has a grounding in urban planning and architecture that enables him or her to maintain an overall vision of the project, so that he or she can create an optimised living environment that is designed for the specific characteristics of each of us, so that people can make things their own.
The use of computer tools (specialised software, CAD/CAM, etc.) is necessary, as is the management of traditional drawing tools.
To create different and innovative spaces, the space designer has to be creative but also highly observant and empathetic.
