Become a 3D and Real-time 3D Generalist

There are many artistic and technical profiles in the computer graphics industry.
These include 3D and real-time 3D generalists, who have the advantage of being able to work in a variety of positions on a wide range of projects.

THE TASKS OF A 3D GENERALIST

3D covers all the techniques used to record visual information in ‘three dimensions’.

The use of 3D offers a number of advantages: realism, emotions, attention-grabbing, the ability to convey information, etc. The generalist will be able to “play” with all this thanks to his versatility.

The 3D and real-time 3D generalist is a bit of a chameleon. One day an artist, the next a technician, they are able to work in very different roles, while demonstrating perfect mastery at every stage: drawing, animation, rendering and special effects.

As a result, they are able to exercise their talents in a wide range of professions, including multimedia graphic designer, 3D graphic designer, layout artist, computer graphics artist, web designer.

At the end of the day, they’re a true Swiss Army knife!

KNOW-HOW, SKILLS

With an excellent ability to adapt, the 3D generalist juggles his or her different areas of expertise brilliantly.

Above all, they must be experts in computer tools and specialised software.
They are creative people with a highly developed artistic sense. Attentive, they need to keep abreast of technical developments in machines and software and adapt quickly to new tools on the market.

Nevertheless, they often have a favourite field, which gives them the opportunity to specialise later in their professional career.

Their skills may be called upon in the creation of a video game or audiovisual production, but also for communication projects (3D logo, modelling, etc.) or 3D presentations (mock-ups, etc.).

CAREER AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

This versatile profile often appeals to small and medium-sized companies, which can then rely on the generalist for a wide range of assignments.

3D generalists can also choose to work as freelancers, where their versatility becomes a real asset, particularly when it comes to finding new contracts.

In a digital (web) agency, a generalist can expect to earn between €2,750 and €3,300.
In a design agency, between €2,200 and €3,000. In a design studio, up to 3600 euros for a senior (1900 euros for a junior graphic designer). In an advertising agency, from €2,350 to €3,000.
