Philippe MOINE

Philippe Moine, is a former ESMA 3D animation student from the class of 2013, and one of the directors of the short film“La vie en vert“.
He was also a member of the team at the London studio ‘The Mill’, which won a VES Award in 2015. We’d like to thank Philippe for agreeing to be interviewed.

Philippe, what did you do after ESMA?

I went to London to work in animation at The Mill, where I’d already done an internship after my second year at ESMA.
I’ve worked on projects like SSE (for which Philippe won a prize at the 2015 VES Awards) and, more recently, the Christmas adverts for Heathrow Airport’s 70th anniversary and, most recently, O2 Follow the Rabbit.

What are you up to at the moment? What are your projects?

I’m still working as a 3D animator at The Mill, where I now have more freedom to work on projects. I’m currently doing the pre-viz on a completely galactic ad. At the same time, I’m working on some personal projects in both animation and illustration.

In the near future, I’d like to continue to evolve in a creative universe, looking for opportunities to create eye-catching visuals.

I like drawing for pleasure, it allows me to change medium, to stay flat, it’s more relaxing and offers a lot of freedom.

I’m not looking to make a career out of illustration, but it’s a good asset. Drawing and animation are good old friends, and I think they’re an essential tool for understanding 3D animation: they’re completely linked.

I also need to improve my drawing skills so that I can approach traditional animation more easily and so that I can really do what I want with the ideas in my head.

What advice would you give to students?

Even if you have your head in the handlebars, just keep pedalling and you’ll end up somewhere!
