Dive into the world of witches and wizards for our students at the Prépa Entertainment course in Lyon, with classes dedicated to the practice of volume.
Hogwarts. The very mention of the name conjures up images of Hogwarts, and the famous music composed by Alexandre Desplat, forever linked to the world of Harry Potter, echoes in our ears. Launched in 2001, the saga of the young wizard has cradled a whole generation and continues to delight and develop its universe. All over the world, young and old alike enjoy getting lost in this magical parallel universe.
The film series has given the story a whole new dimension. Hogwarts Castle, the main setting for the adventures of the apprentice wizards, has been brought to life in all its splendour, dazzling audiences with its imposing, majestic architecture. It was this complex and elaborate building that the Prépa Entertainment students had to reproduce as faithfully as possible as part of their volume course, under the aegis of their teacher Arnaud Quere. It’s the perfect way to fulfil a childhood dream of building an imaginary fortress with your own hands.
SUBJECT OF THE EXERCISE
Make a Hogwarts Castle in volume from 2D plans.
EXERCISE INSTRUCTIONS
- Make the Hogwarts Castle in volume,
- 1 castle per Prep Entertainment class,
- The class is divided into groups and each group has to make one part of the castle,
- Create coherence between the different parts of the building,
- 5 sessions to build the castle.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE
This exercise gives the students a chance to try their hand at volume. Starting from a plan with precise dimensions, they had to create a three-dimensional model of a two-dimensional drawing. This trains their eye for the 3D environment and enables them to think about the transition from flat to volume.
