- Promotion 2022
After their work on insects, the 2nd year 3D Animation and Special Effects students are moving on to mammals by creating a quadruped.
They can be pets or wild animals – they’re our four-legged friends! Animals come in a wide variety of sizes, colours, coats and skins, morphologies… Each one has its own specific features and characteristics.
As they continue to learn more about animals, the 2nd year 3D Animation and Special Effects students from Toulouse have been working on four-legged animals, under the supervision of their teacher Jean Bultingaire. This gave them the opportunity to think more deeply about anatomy, musculature and the composition of a coat, so that they could combine all these elements to create the most realistic animal possible.
SUBJECT OF THE EXERCISE
Creation of a detailed and realistic 3D quadruped animal.
EXERCISE INSTRUCTIONS
- Choose a quadruped,
- Model it realistically and in detail,
- Place the animal in a concrete setting and composition,
- The lighting must be realistic,
- The grooming must be elaborate and complex,
- Master the details of the materials.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE
This exercise encourages students to work on a new aspect of 3D: grooming. This involves mastering all aspects of hair management (hair, fur, grass, carpets, feathers, etc.). This is becoming a discipline in its own right in the virtual image industry, where the work involves knowing and integrating a great deal of knowledge to make it credible.
By practising on quadrupeds, students are also learning more about anatomy, scene composition and framing, the elements that make up the composition, colour and texture, and natural lighting.
TECHNIQUES
Maya, Renderman, Photoshop.
