Print your brand: Graphic Design Project

jules audibert

Presentation of the project

As part of their first year in the Multi-Media Graphic Design Professional Cycle, the students were asked to design a branding project for the fashion sector, through an exercise called Print Your Brand.

With the rise of designer micro-brands, made possible by increasingly accessible means of production and distribution, this project invites students to confront the real issues involved in creating a brand. It is fully in line with a professional approach to graphic design, directly linked to the realities of today’s market.

Subject of the exercise

The students had to imagine and design an original clothing brand, conceived as an independent micro-brand.
Each project had to be anchored in a defined and assertive universe, translating a strong, coherent and identifiable identity through its graphic, aesthetic and conceptual choices.

Guidelines and constraints

As part of this branding project, the students had to :

  • Define the positioning of their clothing brand
  • Build a unique and relevant visual universe
  • Design a coherent graphic system for use on media related to the world of fashion and textiles

The whole project had to meet the requirements of a potential client, while respecting a professional and structured logic.

Pedagogical objectives

The aims of this project were to enable students to :

  • Implement a complete creative methodology, from conceptual research to graphic production
  • Understand the challenges of branding as applied to a clothing brand
  • Develop a coherent graphic system that can be adapted to different media
  • Learn how to translate a brand universe through relevant and controlled visual choices

Techniques and tools used

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator

Supervisor : Édouard Marpeau

This project is a key stage in the first-year graphic design apprenticeship, confronting students with a realistic problem at the crossroads of creation, strategy and visual identity.
