Micro-agencies are a key part of the curriculum, and are often eagerly awaited by students. Plunged into real working conditions, the micro-agencies are an opportunity for students to project themselves into their future professional reality, and to confront management, strategy and communication issues.
The micro-agencies are an essential part of the year-long apprenticeship for students in the Digital Design & Strategy Master’s programme, giving them the opportunity to create and then live the life of a communications agency. For a few days, they become art directors, project managers, community managers, copywriters and so on. They are responsible for everything: the name of the agency, the guidelines for the agency and its event and, of course, the creation of all print and digital media.
This exercise exposes them to the special world of a communications agency.
SUBJECT OF THE EXERCISE
In groups of three, set up micro-agencies, decide on an identity for each one, find an event to put in place and develop communication around this event that will create emulation among the students on the Montpellier campus.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXERCISE
- Create a communications agency,
- develop your reputation,
- find advertisers,
- in groups of 3 students.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE
The micro-agencies are a key moment in the students’ learning process. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to come face to face with real-life problems, to put the skills they’ve acquired into practice, and to appreciate the importance of teamwork. Finding solutions together, pulling in the same direction, drawing on what others have to offer, making the most of their own strengths… It’s a very demanding exercise in terms of energy, creativity and reflection. Pitting the 5 micro-agencies against each other creates a healthy sense of competition between the students, who give it their all, and are propelled into the day-to-day reality of communications agencies, when it comes to winning new contracts.
