Gone Wrong selected at the SHORT SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL & ASIA 2026

ESMA is delighted to announce that the film Gone Wrong, made by the 3D Animation & Special Effects class of 2025, has been entered into the Animation Competition of the prestigious SHORT SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL & ASIA 2026. The event, which will take place in Japan from 25 May to 10 June, brings together works from all over the world and highlights emerging talents in short films. This selection marks a new milestone in the film's development, and underlines the quality of the work of its directors.

The SHORT SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL & ASIA, an international benchmark for short films

Created at the end of the 1990s in Japan, the SHORT SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL & ASIA has established itself over the years as one of the major events for short films in Asia and the rest of the world. Each edition attracts thousands of international entries, bringing together industry professionals, emerging filmmakers and passionate audiences.

Renowned for the diversity and quality of its programming, the festival showcases short films in a range of categories: fiction, animation, documentary and experimental productions. The festival’s influence extends far beyond Asia’s borders, making it a real showcase for young creators and promising talent.

The SHORT SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL & ASIA also enjoys major recognition on the world cinema scene: it is one of the so-called “Oscar-qualifying” festivals. This means that the winning film in the animation competition will be eligible for entry in the 2027 Oscars, offering an exceptional opportunity for international exposure.

Gone Wrong, which has already made a name for itself at ESMA , is the winner of the ESMA 2025 GRAND PRIX. Each year, this distinction is awarded to a particularly outstanding film from among the end-of-studies productions by our 3D Animation & Special Effects students.

Gone Wrong won over the jury and audience alikewith its intense world, bold aesthetics and breathless pace. Its selection for the SHORT SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL & ASIA now confirms its potential on the international scene.

A breathtaking thriller set in the heart of Hong Kong

The film plunges viewers into an oppressive and immersive atmosphere through a synopsis that is as intriguing as it is effective:

Trapped in her dingy Hong Kong council flat in the middle of the Stream, a young woman has to run for her life without stopping after a blood-sucking parasite appears.

Gone Wrongis a story of tension, survival and horror, offering a powerful visual and narrative experience. The film stands out for its artistic direction, urban atmosphere and sense of suspense, offering immediate immersion in a world that is both dark and captivating.
