Become a design project manager

As the name suggests, a graphic design project manager takes charge of a project and manages it from negotiation to final delivery.

Their role is to bring together the work of the various participants and trades, both in-house and external, and ensure that the project is properly implemented.

THE PROJECT MANAGER’S TASKS

When we talk about the job of project manager, we need to know what job we’re talking about. Events project manager? IT project manager? Graphic design project manager? Marketing project manager? to name but a few. Here we’re interested in the graphic design project manager!

This professional coordinates the various resources required, both artistic and technical (graphic designer, computer graphics artist, printer, etc.), and acts as the link between them and the client.

Beforehand, he or she carefully studies the needs and expectations of the client, an essential stage in the successful implementation of the project.

They then pass on their recommendations to the various parties involved, monitoring and supervising their implementation.
For each project, a complete set of specifications must be drawn up.

Meticulous and organised, they are also good communicators. It is this quality that will enable them to make themselves understood by the other people involved in the project, to guide and advise them, to keep in regular contact with their customer, and to carry out their mission successfully.

Their legitimacy is based, among other things, on their own skills in graphic design and their broad knowledge of visual communication.

Web project managers need to keep up to date with the latest trends and technical developments.

CAREER AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

There are many short and long training courses leading to this profession.

The BTS in graphic design prepared in many establishments trains graphic designers in the classic and recent techniques of their profession, in particular the basics of DTP.

After the BTS, students can go on to specialise in the Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, also offered by ESMA. The profession can also be learned through experience and step-by-step.

Once recognised in the profession, project managers generally remain in the field, but they can specialise in advertising, for example, as employees or freelancers.

Project managers start their careers on a gross salary of around €1800 per month.
At the end of their career, they may earn up to €3,000 gross per month.
