Garrick’s cinematic journey began “chaotically” (he says) at secondary school, with the making of his very first short film “Black coffee”, “a horror, fortunately impossible to find on the net”, says the artist.
By dint of persistence, and after 3 years of study at ESMA, the final year of which was devoted to making the short film “Forward, March!”, Garrick graduated from the 3D Animation Film course in September 2013.
In the months following its completion, “Forward, March!” received numerous awards. On the subject of this short film, Garrick adds “as well as being a great team effort, it taught me all the basics that I need to know today”.
His years of training at ESMA were conclusive for him: “less than a month after finishing my course, I was working as an animator for Passion Pictures in London”. The film industry finally opened its doors to him.
On the strength of his experience with the English company, Garrick entered the AutoDesk CG Student Awards… To his great surprise, he won the competition and flew off to New Zealand for a work placement at the famous Weta Digital Studio(you can read all about it here!).
Following this placement, Garrick was taken on by the studio: “I’m currently working for Weta Digital, the famous studio behind The Lord of the Rings. There are lots of projects, and to date I’ve been an animator on : “The Hobbit: The Battle of the 5 Armies”, “The Hunger Games” and “Fast & Furious 7”.
A career already rich in experience just two years after graduating.
