What did ESMA offer him? A technical grounding, but above all the opportunity to turn his passion into a genuine professional project.
“I discovered comic books at the age of 13, and I’ve been drawing ever since,” says Florian Meacci. Shortly after graduating in graphic design, this extraordinary artist went to London to perfect his English.
He immediately fell in love with this cosmopolitan city, rich in inspiration of all kinds, and decided to settle there.
Determined to make his mark in the closed circle of illustration, he approached brands and magazines. His trademark? Delicate drawings done with a Bic pen, only warmed up by a touch of watercolour. “With a technique like this, there’s no room for error. I like the irreversible side of the pen,” he explains.
The virtuosity of his creations, inspired by fashion and photography, soon attracted the attention of prestigious labels. Dolce & Gabbana was the first brand to place its trust in him. The illustration he produced for their online magazine opened the doors to the very select world of fashion. Since then, he has worked on a succession of major projects, including a series of illustrations for H&M, a collaboration with Adidas, and an exhibition on Daft Punk in San Francisco.
“I wouldn’t change my job for the world,” he says. “I love getting up in the morning because I’m excited about a project.
What did ESMA give him? A technical grounding, but above all the opportunity to turn his passion into a real professional project.
